After 27 years at King’s, this is a moment of big emotions: I am truly honoured to have been appointed to such a high post and so grateful to King’s and to all the great colleagues I worked with. To my students: It was so much fun. Many thanks for bearing with me all these years. And I'll be back in some capacity!

Professor Andrea Biondi, Professor of European Union Law and Director of the Centre of European Law, has been sworn in as the Advocate General for Italy in the Court of Justice of the European Union for a six year term.
An advocate general is a magistrate on the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ), who is responsible for independently and impartially presenting an opinion on cases assigned to them. Professor Biondi will be one of eleven advocates general whose conclusions and opinions will be taken into account in rulings by the ECJ.

The Centre became a renowned forum for unbiased debates on EU affairs both in the UK and the European Union, producing world leading, impactful research. The most recent projects led by Professor Biondi include EU State aid regulations, judicial protection, transatlantic trade, and the EU-UK relationship before and in the aftermath of Brexit. He was always connected with the practice of the law and has served, prior to his appointment at the CJEU, as a Vice Chair of the Board of Appeal of EU's energy regulator ACER.
Speaking about the new page in his career, Professor Biondi said:
This appointment is crucial for us, with Andrea becoming the third Court member who has led the Centre of European Law at Kings, alongside our founder, Professor Alexander Chloros, and our President, Professor Sir Francis Jacobs. As a group of UK legal academics we are delighted to see transnational expertise recognized at the highest levels, and our trust in the European project remains unwavering.
