King's dental elective programme re-launched
King’s College London’s Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences has re-launched its highly sought-after Incoming Elective Programme, inviting dental students from across the globe to experience the school’s cutting-edge teaching and research environment.
The incoming elective programme, led by Programme Lead Dr Susha Rajadurai, offers 2-week clinical placements for overseas dentistry students who are in the final year of clinical study, enabling them to gain experience in the UK’s renowned healthcare system. Participants have the opportunity to work alongside experienced dental professionals and observe advanced treatment techniques and patient care in real-world clinical settings.
The programme was put on hold in 2020 due to the worldwide outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. Now we have welcomed our first students, visiting from Science Tokyo.
The students said: “This elective programme provided valuable experience to observe and interact with students and clinical staff at a different environment. We can see the similarities and differences in our practices, which may have been caused by the culture and the systems we have in our countries.”
Students were fortunate enough to be able to observe our highly prestigious consultant-led clinics.
Dr Susha Rajadurai said: “This is an exciting initiative that I believe will enhance our global engagement and broaden our vision. It was truly inspiring to see our students connect, mentor, and build meaningful relationships with international peers.”
