Dust is settling from a month of climate and sustainability related activities at King’s. This year's Climate & Sustainability Month saw more members of the King’s community than ever before engage in a festival of environmental events to educate, inform and inspire.

Running over the month of February 2025, hundreds of people across the King’s community participated, engaged and took action, attending 31 events that took place across all King’s campuses, which equated to around 60 hours of activities.

The month included returning favourites – including a climate crisis scenario simulation and Careers in Sustainability Week – as well as a number of brand-new events, including a climate escape room, RISO print making, sustainable science and gamifying climate education.

Climate & Sustainability Month not only built on existing momentum for climate action at King’s, but reached brand new audiences through event partnerships and a broader array of subjects and activities. The King’s Climate & Sustainability team also ran pop-up events at all King’s campuses, conversing and engaging with staff and students alike.

One of the highlights of the month was the launch of the new No Time to Waste campaign, a two year campaign aimed at empowering and educating our community towards a greener, cleaner King's. The event saw stakeholders from within and external to King's come together to talk about their work on waste and circular economy, as well as an interactive activity exploring innovative and inclusive approaches to common waste streams such as electronic, fashion and food.

Another particularly successful event was our sustainable travel panel, which saw academics and industry professionals from King's & Imperial College London discussing how we can minimise emissions from business travel, while improving diversity and equity in academia and delivering our ambitions.

Events across the month covered a wide array of climate-related topics, often relating to actions and topics laid out in King's Climate & Sustainability Action Plan, which sets out 14 key impact areas to guide the university’s approach to sustainability and climate change, informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

Rosie Smith, Programme Director of King's Climate & Sustainability, said:

What a fantastic Climate & Sustainability Month! It's really exciting to see how many of our students, academics and professional services staff came together across a series of diverse, interdisciplinary events. It just goes to show how King's as a whole is not just embracing action on climate - they're going the extra mile to help make lasting changes.
