The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care has celebrated its second five-year collaboration with Nanjing Vocational Health College (formerly Nanjing Health School).

As part of this collaboration, the Faculty provides nursing education and consultancy to teachers, nursing students and qualified nurses at Nanjing Vocational Health College (formerly Nanjing Health School). NVHC students have the opportunity to pursue higher education at King’s.

Highlights from this collaboration include:

  • The 1-year BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies programme in London for eight NVHC students, offering expanded opportunities for learning and enhanced career development.
  • A CPD module focusing on Geriatric Care to share international evidence-based best practice for the delivery of optimal geriatric patient care.
  • A CPD module focussing on Community Care, some of which was delivered in different community settings to enable a wider range of staff to attend.
  • High Dependency Midwifery (CPD) modules to provide an opportunity for nurses and midwives to gain awareness of the subject matter and reflect on how they can achieve it in their work.
  • Inaugural teaching observation and peer review of the King’s adapted nursing modules in Nanjing for both institutions to gain valuable insights into each other's teaching and learning arrangements, and the respective nursing education and practice systems in China and the UK
  • King’s Foundation sessions to enable English language teaching at NVHC to continue to develop and expand.
  • Workshops for the development of international standards and governance.

Our collaboration is helping to raise the standard of nursing education in China, creating new educational pathways for those on pre-registration nursing programmes, as well as for qualified nurses to enhance their expertise through our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. We are also delighted to see NVHC students and colleagues enter the degree programmes at King’s through BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees, creating future leaders.

The collaboration between the two institutions has resulted from the combined efforts of our teachers and students, as well as the growth of education between China and the UK. We are proud of this achievement and confident in the future.
