Professor Katherine Sleeman, Professor Catherine Evans, Dr Lesley Williamson and Dr Clare Ellis-Smith represented the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at the event. Guests learned about research that is ongoing to improve palliative care for people with dementia. Guests were also introduced to the Impact Centre’s initiatives and ways to support its mission.

Each year, over 100,000 people in the UK die with unmet palliative care needs, a number that is expected to increase in the coming years. These challenges are further compounded by significant disparities in palliative care access based on ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. Additionally, limited availability of research and information contributes to the widening gap between those who need care and those who receive it.

The Impact Centre aims to address these disparities by bridging the gap between evidence and practice, ensuring that all individuals nearing the end of life receive the highest quality care available.
