I am thrilled to be starting a Global Cultures Institute Fellowship. This is a great opportunity to join forces with colleagues across the College and beyond and to be able to dedicate time to understand how we can better support the GLAM sector workforce, as they grapple with global challenges in their work.

Global Cultures Institute announces Fellowship for 2024-25
Dr Anna Woodham leads an interdisciplinary project looking at the emotional labour of employees in galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM) through a Fellowship from the Global Cultures Institute.
Through the project, Dr Woodham, Senior Lecturer in Museum & Heritage Studies in the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries, responds to concern in the sector for acknowledgement and support of the diverse types of emotionally laden work required in GLAM settings. The project aims to explore the distinct problems faced by cultural workers, where their work is shaped by urgent challenges like the cost-of-living crisis, anti-racism, decolonialisation, and climate justice.
In partnership with co-investigator Dr Alexandra Budjanovcanin, Reader in Work Psychology and Public Sector Management in the Department of Human Resource Management & Employment Relations, the project will bring new perspectives on how GLAM workers use their emotions in their roles and the implications of this on productivity.
Beginning in January 2025, a key focus of the fellowship will be the development of a collaborative research grant and deepening understanding of the sector through events and workshops, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 8 to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
