Head shot for Leslie Anne Duvic Paoli

Dr Duvic-Paoli is amongst eight leading researchers who form Parliament’s second ever cohort of Thematic Research Leads (TRL), selected by The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Based on the concept of Chief Scientific Advisers, Thematic Research Leads bring their impartial expertise, extensive policy knowledge and strong network of research connections to a variety of teams in and out of Parliament.

Dr Duvic–Paoli will work for three days each week in Parliament as part of her new role, while continuing her position as a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Law at King’s.

Dr Leslie-Anne Duvic-Paoli will work with a wide range of staff from across POST, the House of Commons Library and the Select Committee teams as a bridge between Parliament and the research community, significantly enhancing the use of high-quality research evidence and expertise in Parliament through effective knowledge exchange and collaborations. Dr Duvic-Paoli’s parliamentary appointment will enable her to play a pivotal role in integrating and advancing innovation and research to the forefront of government decision-making.

I am deeply honoured to have been appointed as the next Parliamentary Research Lead for International Affairs and National Security. The threats to the international rule-based order are immense: the world faces international conflicts and civil wars, existential environmental crises, gross human rights violations, and a retreat from multilateral cooperation. Research plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work at the intersection of research and policymaking to make a meaningful difference. It is a true privilege to support the UK Parliament working towards building a sustainable and prosperous Britain.

Dr Duvic–Paoli will commence her role in September 2024.
