I am delighted to have been awarded a prestigious King’s Prize Fellowship. By identifying biological markers of ageing, we can develop new ways to prevent age-related diseases, ultimately helping people live healthier for longer. I am particularly grateful to my mentor, Professor Cathryn Lewis, for her invaluable guidance and support, as well as my former and current mentors and collaborators for their ongoing encouragement.

Dr Julian Mutz awarded King's Prize Fellowship
The fellowship will support his research to develop a new predictor of health and lifespan using markers in the blood.
Dr Julian Mutz, Research Fellow at the Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry Centre within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London, is the third IoPPN researcher to receive a 2024 King’s Prize Fellowship.
As part of the Fellowship, Dr Mutz will develop a novel measure to predict health and lifespan using molecules found in the blood, known as blood-based biomarkers, including fatty acids and inflammatory markers. The award will enable him to pursue an innovative research programme that combines his expertise in analysing large-scale population health data and biological ageing research.
The King’s Prize Fellowships are awarded to outstanding postdoctoral researchers in health-related areas to transition to independent academic careers. The fellowships are co-funded by The Anthony and Elizabeth Mellows Charitable Settlement, Wellcome and King’s.
