BSECS President's Prize
The British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies President's Prize has been jointly awarded for 2017, to Rita J. Dashwood and James Fisher.
The British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies President’s Prize has been jointly awarded for 2017, to Rita J. Dashwood and James Fisher.
James Fisher is a PhD candidate at King’s College London. His winning paper, which was praised for its originality and breadth of scholarship, is titled ‘Knights-Errant in Farming: The Social “Evils” of Book-Knowledge in Eighteenth-Century England’.
Rita Dashwood is a PhD candidate at the University of Warwick; her winning paper, ‘“An office in which she had always depended”: Surrogate managers in Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park and Persuasion’ was commended by the judging panel for its interdisciplinary application of Austen studies to the fields of economic history and gender studies.
The British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies President’s Prize is awarded for the best paper delivered by a postgraduate student at the BSECS Annual Conference.
