Britain and Europe in focus for launch of new book

Britain’s complex relationship with Europe was in the spotlight for the launch of a new book by an academic from the Department of Political Economy.

Dr Andrew Blick interviewed Professor Vernon Bogdanor for the launch.
Dr Andrew Blick interviewed Professor Vernon Bogdanor for the launch.

Professor Vernon Bogdanor joined Dr Andrew Blick for a discussion about the former’s new work, Britain and Europe in a Troubled World.

The book explores what Prof Bogdanor describes as Britain’s “ambivalent” attitude towards the European project, even in its early stages, while also looking at its evolving relationship with its neighbours as the Common Market has given way to the European Community and, ultimately, the European Union.

Whether Brexit was an aberration or symptomatic of wider problems within the EU is also a key topic picked up by Prof Bogdanor throughout the book.

Britain and Europe in a Troubled World (Yale University Press) is available for purchase online.
