Academic offers expert insight at European Parliament delegation
A King’s College London academic was invited to share his expertise with European Parliament officials at a hearing focussed on the Korean Peninsula.
Professor Ramon Pacheco Pardo appeared before the delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula on 5 December in Brussels to update officials on political developments in Korea over the last year.
Prof Pacheco Pardo, head of the Department of European and International Studies, delivered a presentation to members before taking a series of questions. He spoke about South Korea’s view on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, its stance towards North Korea, the development of EU-Korea relations, and the response to the forthcoming presidency of Donald Trump.
Prof Pacheco Pardo also discussed developing ties between the EU and Korea on cyber security, military co-operation, the G7, and diplomacy.

In November, Prof Pardo was invited to analyse the implications of recent global geopolitical developments on South Korean politics and foreign policy during the 29th Domestic Advisory Group Meeting under the EU-ROK Trade Agreement of the European Committee and Social Committee. He has also been invited to discuss these issues in meetings and debrief sessions organised or attended by officials from the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and different units within NATO.
