Artists, researchers and climate action advocates will gather at Science Gallery London, part of King’s, on Saturday 30 November, to host ‘In the Mud’, a day of free workshops, discussions and creative events to encourage people to navigate the climate crisis with a hopeful, open and community-led approach.

Speakers and facilitators include King’s student and climate activist Pim Sullivan, King’s legal researcher Saifeddine Benamar, poet Sai Murray, climate justice speaker, storyteller and musician Emmanuela Yogolelo, urban foraging enthusiast Tara Jetto and Becky Watkins from the Good Grief Network.

Coinciding with Science Gallery London’s new exhibition Vital Signs; another world is possible which opened on 13 November 2024, this daylong event, ‘In the Mud’, will explore how to make our collective way through the issues around the health of the planet, while avoiding the fatalism and doom that can prevent action, activism and impact.

Events throughout the day will include a climate café, a workshop focussed upon on turning anger into activism, a creative session to write and perform songs of resistance, a grief circle to honour feelings around the climate, ecological and poly-crisis and an opportunity to reconnect with nature through meditation.

Vital Signs: another world is possible.

Alongside these workshops, visitors to In the Mud will have the opportunity to visit Science Gallery London’s free exhibition, Vital Signs; another world is possible. This new exhibition brings together artists, designers and researchers to explore these relationships and how the health of the natural world - from our waterways to our atmosphere and the ocean floor - is intimately connected to our own health and wellbeing.

Revealing unique perspectives on our surrounding environments through creative, sensory works and multiple voices, this exhibition reinforces the fact that humans are fundamentally a part of nature rather than apart from it.

Places our own actions as both problem and the solution and encourages us to think of our impact on the world... it sends a hopeful message, also reflected as the exhibit's subtitle: another world is possible
