King's International Foundation Programme
Find out more about our specialist one-year foundation course
You'll apply to the King's International Foundation Programme via our application portal, King's Apply.
There are three things you need to decide before you apply to the King’s International Foundation Programme:
Each of these options is explained in more detail on the King's International Foundation Programme page.
Make sure you take a look at our pathways and choose the right module combination that will allow you to progress to your chosen degree. Don’t forget to check the entry requirements for the module combination that you’re interested in.
We have a priority deadline for our pathways. For 2025 entry, this will be Sunday 16 March 2025 and applications received by this date are guaranteed to be considered. Applicants who apply by 16 March 2025 will receive an offer in time to apply for King’s accommodation.
If you apply after 16 March 2025, your favourite module choices may be full and you may miss the deadline for King’s Residences.
Some pathways may remain open for applications beyond the priority deadline. In this instance, you may apply late, but there may not be a space available for you by the time you submit your application.
To apply for the King’s International Foundation Programme, you must:
The King’s International Foundation Programme requires a non-refundable application fee of £75 before you can submit your application.
Please note that payment of an application fee is not a guarantee that you will receive an offer for your chosen programme, as many of our programmes are competitive.
If you decide to apply to more than one programme with an application fee, you will need to pay for each application submitted.
Please ensure that you read the information about your chosen programme carefully before applying.
Note: if you receive an offer, our Kings International Foundation Programme will also require a deposit payment to secure your place. This is in addition to the application fee, however, the deposit is used as a partial payment of the tuition fees upon enrolling. Your offer letter will include details of any deposit you must pay, deadlines, and payment methods. You should not make a deposit payment unless instructed to as part of an offer.
You may start your application and save your progress before you submit it. This is particularly helpful when you need to gather the supporting documents for your application.
We need three pieces of supporting information in order to consider your application:
A Personal Statement gives you the opportunity to tell us why you wish to study at King's and what degree programme you hope to study after your foundation. You can see which degrees are available to you on the ‘Degree eligibility’ tab on each module combination page.
You should write a minimum of four paragraphs for your Personal Statement. Please include information on how you feel your chosen course will benefit you, what you feel you can bring to King's as a student, and the area of study you intend to progress to after completing your Foundation course.
You should be aware that if the module combination you’re applying for does not allow progression to the degree you mention in your Personal Statement, we will need to query this. Until this is rectified, your application will be deemed incomplete.
You need to submit an academic transcript with your marks for Years 10, 11 and 12.
If you are still completing high school, you should provide a Year 12 interim transcript with a full list of the subjects studied in the final year, as well as the academic transcript with final marks for Years 10 and 11.
If you have completed high school, you should provide a copy of your graduation diploma or certificate, as well as your academic transcript with final marks for Years 10, 11 and 12.
Official translations are required for any documents that are not in English. An official translation is either from the school, on headed paper and stamped/signed, or from a certified translator. We cannot accept documents translated by the applicant.
If you are taking A-levels or the IB Diploma, you should provide your predicted grades. If you are taking AS levels, you should provide predicted grades and information on the exam board that will issue your certificate. Please note that we cannot consider AS-level results issued at a school level. If the exam board is not specified, then your application will be considered incomplete.
You must submit an approved English language test certificate, such as an IELTS for UKVI, which must be dated within the last two years. If you have not taken one yet, you can still apply and if we make you an offer, this will form part of the offer conditions. See a list of all English language qualifications that we accept.
We usually make a decision on your application within eight weeks. You’ll get an email notification when it’s time for you to log back into King’s Apply and see our decision. You may receive a notification to ask for more information before we can assess your application. It is important that you keep an eye on your emails so that you can find out if you have an offer or if we need additional information from you.
If we offer you a place to join the King’s International Foundation Programme, this will often be a conditional offer. Within this, we will outline the conditions that you need to meet in order to have your place confirmed. For example, we may need you to provide evidence of your results or your English Language Certificate if you didn’t have these at the time you applied.
You’ll find details of your offer in your King’s Apply account.
When you’re ready to accept your offer, you need to log into your King’s Apply account and accept it.
At this stage, you must also pay your deposit and you can apply for accommodation if within the deadlines, note if your application is late you may miss the opportunity to apply for King's accommodation. We strongly recommend you accept your offer as early as possible and apply for accommodation as soon as you can. You can find out more about securing accommodation on our website.
You’ll need to upload your results to your King’s Apply account by the end of July, earlier if possible. This is essential in order to have your place at King’s confirmed and receive a Confirmation of Acceptance (CAS), which you’ll need to apply for a student visa.
Visa regulations for entry into the UK often change. We recommend you take a look at our visa information page to find out more about the latest system and what documents you’ll need to prepare.
We understand that the visa system may be confusing. If you need any further advice on applying for your visa, please contact one of our Student Advice team.
If you apply before the accommodation deadline, you’ll be guaranteed a place in King’s accommodation for the duration of your King's International Foundation Programme.
You’ll be sent details of your accommodation options and deadlines along with your offer.
King’s Residences opens for application in spring, usually April/May time, for around a month. You will be emailed when you can apply for accommodation. We recommend you apply for your King's International Foundation Programme by 16 March 2025 to ensure you have an offer in time to apply for accommodation.
Late applicants may not receive an offer before the accommodation applications close, and you would then need to find accommodation with another provider or in the private rented sector.
We strongly advise that you choose only one pathway that you would like to apply to. If you’re unsure about your choice you can use our website to search for degree programmes at King’s you may wish to progress to, and see which pathway is most suitable for you.
However, you can apply for more than one pathway in the same year if you would like to. You will be required to pay the application fee for each pathway.
If you receive offers for more than one pathway, you will only be able to accept one of the offers.
If you already hold an offer, then choose to apply to another pathway and are successful in your application, please let us know if you wish to accept the alternative offer. We can transfer any deposit paid to the new pathway's application and accept the offer on your behalf.
Once you have completed an online application, you can click on 'new application' and create another application for a different pathway.
You cannot, however, make more than one application for the same pathway in the same academic year.
If your application has not yet had a decision, you should contact the Admissions team via King’s Apply and request a change of programme.
If a programme remains open to new applications, the Admissions team will be able to switch your application to the new programme without payment of a new application fee.
Please note this is not a guarantee that you will receive an offer for the new programme, as many of our programmes are competitive. If you request to switch programmes, the date you submit your request will become the date of your application.
If your application is unsuccessful, you will need to submit a new application for another King’s International Foundation Programme, subject to that programme being open to new applications. You will need to pay for the new application submitted.
If you hold an offer, that offer is specific to the specific King’s International Foundation Programme applied for, as will be detailed in your offer letter (if an offer is made).
If you wish to be considered for a different programme of study, you will need to submit a new application through King's Apply and be considered alongside other applicants for that programme. You must do this before you enrol.
If you wish to change to a different mode of study, eg from the Extended to Standard Programme, please contact the Admissions Office through the King's Apply portal for advice before you enrol. A request does not guarantee that the change can be permitted.
Once your application has been set up for enrolment in the programme, there is no guarantee that you will be able to change your programme or mode of study; however, Student Services can provide advice on internal transfer procedures.
You can message the admissions team through your King’s Apply account or contact us on +44 (0) 20 7123 4843.
