This month marks the 30th anniversary of the foundation of UNSCOM, set up by the United Nations Security Council to oversee the elimination of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction after the first Gulf War.
To commemorate the event, this webinar will reflect on UNSCOM’s unique work and achievements, with a particular focus on its biological weapons work. It will also consider how UNSCOM’s experiences can inform current efforts to strengthen arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, including open source investigations monitoring weapon flows.
An international panel will reflect on the group's unique work and achievements and consider how UNSCOM's experiences can strengthen non-proliferation today.
