About the event

Are you considering a degree in Global Health & Social Medicine? This Taster event is a fantastic opportunity to learn about studying this area at King's College London.

Our Global Health & Social Medicine BSc and Global Health & Social Science BA look at how to improve health and wellbeing around the world by shaping effective polices and healthcare delivery systems.

This talk will explore how social factors shape individual health and well-being by examining how socioeconomic status, education, neighbourhood environment, and healthcare access can shape health outcomes. It will highlight health disparities between urban and rural areas, identifying unique risks tied to pollution in cities and resource shortages in rural areas.

The talk will also address how discrimination can drive chronic stress and related health issues among marginalised groups. It will further discuss how high healthcare costs and coverage gaps prevent many from accessing necessary care and examine how the unequal availability of nutritious food, clean water, and safe exercise spaces can critically impact health. The session will conclude with ideas of how to promote health equity and create healthier, more inclusive communities.
