Under the rubric of XR Archaeology | XR & Attention Research Seminars, architects Lara Lesmes and Fredrik Hellberg will present their study and archive on the magic and mechanics of portals found in fiction. It is composed of nearly a 1000 portals and 23 archetypes – such as a door, a mirror, a crack in the floor, or a cave – taken from books, films, graphic novels and games from the past 250 years.

Lara Lesmes and Fredrik Hellberg lead Space Popular (Space Popular), an architecture studio that explores the relationships between media and the built environment through research, design, and artworks. Commissioners and exhibitors include institutions such as MAK, Vienna; MAXXI, Rome; Sir John Soane Museum, London; ArkDes, Stockholm; and MMCA, Seoul. Lesmes and Hellberg are Professors at the Institute of Architecture at Angewandte in Vienna, and previously held academic positions at UCLA AUD in Los Angeles, the Architectural Association in London, University of Toronto, and INDA Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
