Abstract: The Future of Legal Services Commission is a grouping of expert officers of the International Bar Association whose mission is to analyse and report on the state of the legal profession, specifically looking at changing client demands, new entrants to the legal industry, regulatory changes and education, and digitisation/technology, and to recommend how to respond to these challenges.
In this talk, current Co-Chair, Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE University Law School in Madrid, and Vice-Chair, Chris Howard, University Partnerships Director of BARBRI Global, will provide an overview of the Commission’s latest findings, based on three research reports which it has recently undertaken. The first, the Blueprint for a Global Legal Education, based on a wide-ranging survey of Law Schools throughout the globe, seeks to answer the question of what the ideal degree curriculum should contain in order to prepare young lawyers for 21st century practice.
The second, an analysis of the latest discussion and research on the forces shaping legal practice worldwide, seeks to identify and interpret the key Drivers of Change for the industry. Finally, the Heatmap Survey of the Legal Profession, an ongoing study, provides a fascinating insight into the issues of the highest concern to practices worldwide, offering a unique profile of the modern law firm.
Sole and Chris will present all these findings in an interactive presentation which will also offer the opportunity for a wider audience debate on the issues raised. We look forward to seeing you there.
