This is the launch of the book Supremacy at Sea: Task Force 58 and the Central Pacific Victory with Yale University Press. It is an account of U.S. Navy operations from January to June 1944, as well as a discussion of the origins and impact of the growth of American naval power, especially the fast carrier force and the fleet train.
About the speaker: Prof. Mawdsley is Honorary Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, and formerly Professor of International History there. He has a PhD from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and taught at the University of Glasgow from 1970 to 2010. He has written extensively on Russian History and World War II, but on the maritime history side his best-known book is The War for the Seas: A Maritime History of World War II (Yale U.P., 2019), which won the Anderson Medal of the Society for Nautical Research as the best maritime non-fiction book of the year.
