Social Media and Mental Health: Confronting the Harms of the Modern Attention Economy

Teens and parents, government officials, and researchers are making a new, alarming allegation: that use of social media has triggered an epidemic of mood disorders and other mental health issues among young people. What does law enforcement need to understand and evaluate these allegations? What expertise is required? What evidence should they look for? And how can enforcement agencies and policymakers in the U.S. and the U.K. address these harms while protecting civil rights and liberties?

Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission will explore these questions in a lecture on Thursday, September 28th at 18:30 (BST).

The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception.
