Part of Lost and Found: Stories of Sanctuary and Belonging

King’s Legal Clinic invites you to the Rivers Hackathon as part of the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice.

Since 2020 the King’s Legal Clinic has been working to raise awareness of the impact of our actions in the global north and of climate change and on communities who live around the Sundarbans river delta in West Bengal. Extreme weather events, salinated water and the pressure on the environment is forcing these communities to leave the delta and migrate yet again.

Meanwhile in the UK, pressure on our rivers is preventing the migration of fish and killing the wildlife which lives in and around them.

At the hackathon lawyers, artists, campaigners and students will exchange ideas and experience on these themes. Participants will then discuss and develop strategies to tackle the impacts of climate change on their communities and their rivers.

Our event is part of a worldwide initiative that works to connect legal clinics together to raise awareness of the climate and nature emergency. For one day every year student law clinics across the world to join together and focus on tackling one specific issue as a result of climate change emergency- in 2024 the issue is rivers.

This event is part of Lost and Found: Stories of sanctuary and belonging.

Lost & Found foregrounds stories of sanctuary - exploring themes of refuge, resilience, and the search for safety in a world facing significant social, political, and environmental challenges.

This eclectic programme of art, film, ideas and discussions reflects King’s status as a University of Sanctuary. It has been inspired and informed by King’s life-changing research and co-created with artists and communities from across London and beyond.
