Public web data is the fuel for AI, the basis for research, and an enabler of economic growth.

It’s also a potential force for good, if it can be harnessed to address critical social issues.

In this session we’ll discuss how we can make the best use of public web data, and ensure it is collected, analysed, and used ethically.

We’ll share practical insights from the data industry, and also discuss how regulation is changing the sector and the need to balance the influence of large tech firms with a drive for innovation and scale-up opportunities.

You’ll also hear some case studies of how public web data is already being used in an academic, research or campaigning setting, including how the Bright Initiative’s partnership with the Molly Rose Foundation has helped them hold social media platforms to account for their response to harmful material online.
