Dr Mary Baginsky and Dr Carl Purcell , both of King's College London, will be discussing the findings of an ESRC-funded research project that examined schools’ engagement in multi-agency working for the protection and safeguarding of children in England.
A recent investigation by the Times Educational Supplement asked 'Why do so many safeguarding referrals from schools end in no further action?’
Over recent years, and as our awareness of the dangers faced by children and young people have grown, schools have been drawn closer into multi-agency working relationships including with children’s social care services. However, in the context of public sector austerity, rising levels of child and family poverty and increased pressure on children's social care services, schools have taken on additional responsibilities which they do not always feel adequately resourced or experienced to deal with.
