The Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care is proud to present the latest event in our Inaugural Lecture Series.

The event is a celebration of our new professors, Julie Sanders and Vibhu Paudyal, who will present an overview of their contribution to their fields.

This event is free and open to members of the public, please register via Ticket Tailor.

Doors for this event will open at 17:45 (BST), with the lectures to commence at 18:00. A drinks reception will be held at 19:10, immediately after the lecture.

The heart and soul of cardiac surgery by Professor Julie Sanders

Biography

Professor Julie Sanders is a Professor of Cardiovascular Care within the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King's College London.

Julie is a cardiovascular nurse specialising in cardiac surgery care. Her current work focuses on health related quality of life, morbidity outcomes, the impact of frailty and the underrepresentation of women in cardiovascular trials. She is also a co-investigator on several large trials and is the UK trial steering committee chair of the first women-only cardiac surgery trial ROMA-Women UK. Her other area of work has focused on nursing and allied professional research capacity building, where she led the development of predoctoral, doctoral and post-doctoral clinical academic careers in practice at St Bartholomew's Hospital, where she continues to work 1 day a week.

Julie is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), Phi Mu Chapter (nurse leader) in 2023. She has a number of national and international roles including a nuring and allied professional fellow of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery (SCTS) of Great Britain and Ireland, a co-founder of the Cardiac Surgery International Nursing and Allied Professional Research Network (CONNECT) and is the current ESC Association of Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (ACNAP) President-Elect.

Homelessness, health and health services in 21st century Britain by Professor Vibhu Paudyal

Professor Vibhu Paudyal is a Professor of Health Services Research & Inequalities within the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King's College London.

Vibhu’s research focuses on understanding and mitigating inequalities particularly in people who face multiple and severe disadvantages. His research has offered extensive evidence on the disparities in health and access to healthcare faced by people experiencing homelessness. He has led a multicentre randomised controlled trial to test a model of care which involves integrated health, social and practical support for people experiencing homelessness.

Vibhu’s research works reflect interdisciplinary collaboration and coproduction. He engages with patients, service users and people with lived experiences of marginalisation and exclusion when designing and delivering research.

Vibhu is a Fellow (FESCP) and previously the Chair of the Research Committee of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP). He is also the associate editor of International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy, an ESCP flagship journal.

Vibhu is a keen educator, and has taught across various undergraduate and postgraduate professional curriculum in healthcare. He has co-edited one book, co-authored two book chapters and over 130 peer reviewed research papers.
