Origami birds: weaving stories of migration and hope

Bush House South East Wing, Strand Campus, London

Origami birds: weaving stories of migration and hope is an interactive and collaborative workshop designed to celebrate migration, resilience and the spirit of sanctuary. Participants will craft origami birds, share migration-related stories, and contribute to a collective artwork—a large origami bird decorated with individual creations.

This centrepiece will be displayed at King’s College London, symbolising the strength and diversity of sanctuary communities aligning with the King’s Impact Priority, peace and justice in a turbulent world, reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering dialogue, understanding and inclusion to strengthen resilience and forge pathways to sanctuary through creative engagement.

The event fosters collaboration between King’s Sanctuary Programme, the King’s Culture Team, King’s Climate & Sustainability Team, and King’s Volunteering, supporting the themes of belonging explored in the Lost and Found season. It also supports the university’s commitment to promoting positive narratives on migration, peace, and justice. With a focus on community engagement, this event aims to inspire dialogue, creative expression, and cross-departmental partnerships while encouraging greater awareness of Refugee Week activities.
