The King's Russia Institute is delighted to invite you to the launch of the Mobilising for War in Russia roundtable.

On 21 September, 2022, the Russian government ordered mobilisation of Russian citizens for war in Ukraine. Despite the political rhetoric of the limited nature of this mobilisation, the decision shifted the realities of Russia’s war in Ukraine from the  perspective of the Russian people. What was presented and seen as a limited military operation fought by professionals turned into a call to all to defend the 'motherland'. The majority of people were not ready for such a turn.

This roundtable brings together scholars from across King’s College London to discuss the ongoing process of mobilisation in Russia, the reaction of Russian society, the reaction to mobilisation in Ukraine, and the potential implications of these processes for the future of Ukraine, Russia and the ongoing war.
