I spoke at last year’s (2022) IoPPN Research Festival as one of the winners of the Open Research Award. The Open Research Awards was an opportunity to raise awareness and visibility of open science practices and it was great to connect all these people up and bring people together and start lots of conversations.

We look forward to welcoming you to our 10th Edition of the IoPPN Research Festival, themed 'Looking back to look forward'.
The IoPPN Research Festival is an annual showcase of exciting and innovative research celebrating academic success across the IoPPN. This year’s festival features three keynote talks from Professor Oscar Marín, Professor Janet Treasure and Professor Sir Robin Murray, alongside several five-minute talks from researchers at all levels from the student, lecturers, professor as well as professional services who support our research endeavours. There will be poster presentations as well as 3-minute PhD thesis and Open Research Awards presentations.
This is an occasion for networking and to inspire collaboration. You will have the opportunity not only to hear about the IoPPN’s work but also to speak with presenters during the coffee break and the reception after the event, as well as with colleagues from across the IoPPN.
At IoPPN we seek to transform the lives of people with mental disorders and neurological conditions through our research. In order to do that, our research has to be incredibly multidisciplinary, ranging from fundamental neuroscience all the way to understanding social causes. The research takes place in collaboration, for example, with the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the wider King’s Health Partners. The Research Festival is a fantastic opportunity for see this breadth of research and also the wonderful diversity of our researchers, some at the start of their careers and others very established investigators.
Professor Matthew Hotopf, Vice-Dean Research and Incoming Dean of the IoPPN
The IoPPN is Europe’s largest centre for research in psychiatry, psychology, basic and clinical neuroscience and substance use disorders. It is one of the most cited institutions in the world in these fields, with multi-disciplinary expertise and strong NHS, industry and healthcare partnerships, including with the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, King's Health Partners, NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre and the King's Maudsley Partnership for Children and Young People.
Started in 2012 by Professor Dame Til Wykes, the event was originally known as the Institute of Psychiatry's 'Parade of Stars' and has been bringing together academic stars to share their ground-breaking work with each other.
The Research Festival, now organised by the Research & Innovation Committee, brings together researchers from all levels of career for an annual showcase of the exciting and innovative research happening across the IoPPN. It celebrates the excellence, inclusivity, collaboration and academic success that makes the IoPPN such a world-leading institution for working and studying.
