Home Care Research Forum May 2025

Online

At the Forum in May

The Home Care Research Forum provides an opportunity for researchers, people working in the field and others with an interest in homecare to gather and discuss current exciting research and to establish new networks and connections.

Talk 1: Dr Cat Forward (NIHR Policy Research Unit in Health & Social Care Workforce, King's College London)

Title: SUPPORTED - Informing the delivery of homecare at the end of life

Summary: Cat will speak about the SUPPORTED study, led by the University of Hull. Study page link here. Little is known about the training and support homecare workers need to care for people with advanced illness approaching the last months of life. We carried out research across Hull, Bradford and Bromley to understand the experiences and needs of homecare workers at this time. We developed training materials and guidance for policy and practice - Cat will talk through the study and share the findings including free to access training which will be available for homecare workers.

Talk 2: Rachel Kelso (Homecare Worker's Group C.I.C)

Title: Forging new connections between researchers and domiciliary care workers

Summary: Homecare Workers' Group C.I.C is a not-for-profit peer support network run by and for domiciliary care workers. Alongside other activities, the group lets its members know about opportunities to participate in research. By facilitating direct links between researchers and domiciliary care workers, the group unlocks a new stream of ground-level insight into the adult social care system, with a view to improving the end quality and availability of support.
