DPE Distinguished Lecture: The Grammar of Authoritarianism

Strand Building, Strand Campus, London

03MarBasu003

Given the erosion of democracy around the world, there is urgent need to understand the roots of democracy and authoritarianism. Though authoritarianism is a top-down force that controls society, its roots lie in the preferences and everyday choices of ordinary people. Drawing on real-world examples and using strategic analysis, the lecture will dissect the micro foundations of authoritarian rule, how it morphs over time, and how, despite the appearance of an iron fist, it is often fragile.

The event will be followed by a reception which all are invited to attend.
