According to a recent report from the UN, the cumulative climate pledges of the 193 Parties to the Paris Agreement amount to a CO2 emission pathways that would lead to a 2.5 degrees Celsius warming by the end of the century, beyond the 1.5°C threshold agreed upon in the Paris Agreement. The alarming lack of international ambition and cooperation loomed over the discussions at the COP 27. An Agreement was reached on a loss and damage fund, whose ramifications will need to be seen. Rachel Harrington-Abrams, PhD researcher and member of the Centre, attended the COP 27 and will tell us her thoughts on the discussions and outcomes. We will then discuss the main takeaways of the COP 27.
