Building Race Equity and Diversity in research network (BREaD) meeting: Ethnicity in trials and statistics

Speakers from the UK Statistics Authority, Office of National Statistics and University of Aberdeen will discuss ethnicity in trials and statistics.
The Building Race Equity and Diversity in research network (BREaD), South London, was established with several key objectives including to serve as a driving force in embedding race inclusion, diversity, and equity approaches in research practice across our health and education institutions.
The BREaD research network consists of several key stakeholders including: lived experience research ambassadors; community organisations (e.g. Croydon BME Health Forum, Black Thrive, Caribbean and African Health Network); health partners (South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Guy's and St Thomas', King's Health Partners); Southwark Council, King's IoPPN, Kings CTU, King's CRF, alongside NIHR Maudsley BRC, NIHR ARC, NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network; Psychosis and Behavioural and Developmental Disorders Clinical academic groups, and the Maudsley Charity.
We are opening our next BREaD network meeting, on Thursday 6 March, 12:00 – 13:15 via Microsoft Teams to offer an opportunity to hear presentations from our invited guests:
- Ed Humpherson, Director General for Regulation, UK Statistics Authority; Head of the Office for Statistics Regulation will focus on pitfalls in the use of data.
- Joy Preece, Office of National Statistics will present on the team's work considering how to make data collections consistent on a range of issues, including ethnicity.
- Professor Shaun Treweek, Chair in Health Services Research, University of Aberdeen will present on how trial teams should make decisions about the proportions and diversity of ethnic groups in their trials.
