The Practice of Leadership programme was launched in 2015 as a way of ensuring students, fellows and researchers at the ALC are exposed to the experiences of leaders in the fields of peace, security and development. It complements teaching and research in the Centre and strengthens the theoretical analysis of leadership. The programme consists of the 'Leading practitioners reflection series' and the 'Visiting practitioners' engagements.
Leading practitioners reflection series
Inducted leading practitioners participate in two collective sessions a year in London, either as guest lectures or panel discussions. They also have the opportunity to engage with the students on our master's courses and provide mentoring sessions to our Peace and Security fellows.
As part of our inter-generational approach, we attach alumni from our Peace and Security fellowship programme as research aides to these practitioners, to help collect and collate data, as well as document the experiences of the practitioners for in-depth analysis.
Visiting practitioners
As part of the programme, we bring in policy practitioners, research professionals and senior academic for a period of reflection and interaction with our students, fellows and researchers.
While at the ALC at King's or the ALC Nairobi, the visiting practitioners are expected to give guest lectures and/or mentoring sessions as required. They are also expected to contribute to our research on 'peace, society and the state of Africa' through journal articles, proposal developments and broader research activities.
Representing our strategic engagement and partnerships, visiting practitioners come several leading institutions, including University of Buea, NEEM Foundation, Abuja, University of Pretoria and Not For Sale.
