Dr Kizza Besigye was appointed a Leading Practitioner at the African Leadership Centre in 2023.

Dr Besigye is a Ugandan physician, politician, and former military officer in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). He served as the president for the Forum ufor Democratic Change (FDC) political party and contested for Uganda’s presidency in 2001, 2006, 2011, and 2016 respectively.

Dr Besigye holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MB.ChB) from Makerere University, and was President Yoweri Museveni’s personal physician during the Bush War (1981 to 1986). He was State Minister (1986 to 1990) and held Senior Command and Staff positions in UPDF (1991 to 1999).
