With a major in English and enough credits to minor in Classical Studies (a direction I never would have anticipated at the start of my degree!) my studies have opened doors to interests and opportunities I’d never imagined.
The English department at KCL is incredibly dynamic, offering modules that span a unique range of topics, from the Figurations of Conspiracy in America to Advanced Poetry and Transoceanic Indians. Each module has sharpened my skills in literary analysis and theory skills while feeding my curiosity about diverse fields. This academic grounding makes me feel equipped to tackle complex ideas, think critically, and explore elevated interests across various disciplines.
My unexpected foray into Classical Studies has added a fascinating dimension to my academic experience. This minor combines history, literature, art history, and even archaeology, a blend that has gifted me new perspectives and skills. Engaging with these disciplines has sparked a passion for understanding how art and artifacts tell stories, something I’m eager to explore further.
While my future career is not yet set in stone, KCL has provided invaluable guidance through workshops and events with publishers and female writers. These experiences have prompted me to consider internships at publishing companies, where I can blend my love for storytelling with practical industry knowledge. I’m also contemplating postgraduate studies, with potential paths in English Literature, Art History and Conservation, or even Archaeology. The possibilities are both exciting and vast.
Beyond academics, my time at university has given me the confidence to pursue new passions. One standout is DJing, an unexpected love that grew through experimenting with music and graphic design. The skills I’ve developed in leadership, creativity, and connection through music have opened my eyes to potential opportunities in the radio and music industries.
Ultimately, my degree has been a launchpad for exploration, skill-building, and self-discovery. Whether my path leads to publishing, postgraduate study, or the music industry, I’m grateful for the flexibility and support KCL has provided. For now, I’m embracing the possibilities and looking forward to wherever this journey takes me.
