King’s considers the professional and personal development of our staff a priority and we offer an inspiring range of opportunities for training and promotion. Our Organisational Development team provide in-house and bespoke learning. We can also work with you to identify new career development opportunities.
King’s gained the Athena SWAN silver institutional award in 2021, recognising our progress towards gender equality. Many of our departments and faculties hold their own local Athena SWAN awards. We support women’s development through the award-winning Springboard Women’s Development Programme.
All staff have access to LinkedIn Learning, the online training library for business, IT and creative skills. More information about the career development opportunities at King’s is outlined below.

The Associateship of King’s College (AKC) course is a unique opportunity to consider fundamental questions of theology, philosophy and ethics in a contemporary context. The AKC was first granted in 1835 and is the university’s original award. Those who complete the course are eligible for election as an Associate of King’s College and, when elected, can use the letters AKC after their name.

King’s Foundations offers courses in academic language skills, covering academic grammar and vocabulary, style, text structure and pronunciation. The Modern Language Centre runs language courses for adult learners, specialist courses and tailor-made tuition. High quality resources and multilingual advisors at the Language Resources Centre offer a friendly learning environment for independent language learning.
The Employee Assistance Programme provides free, confidential advice for managers and staff to assist in their professional and personal development
– for example, on work-life balance, supporting their staff or colleagues and discussing difficult subjects.
Our 12 professional networks connect staff with similar roles and expertise – for example, executive and personal assistants, marketing and communications specialists, business intelligence and technical staff.
We support researchers in all aspects of their work and at every stage of their careers.
King’s Academy is dedicated to improving the university’s teaching and learning environment. The Academy supports experienced academics and clinical educators as well as early career researchers who are undertaking teaching for the first time.
The Centre for Research Staff Development connects research communities within King’s and works with the Researcher Development Programme to provide bespoke training and development opportunities.
