Here's the world's ultimate swearword, according to maths

PhD student Sophie Maclean made global headlines in 2023 after she created a code that can read an existing list of swearwords and analyse their qualities to create a new one.

Maclean used a Markov chain: a mathematical model that predicts the probability of a sequence based on previous inputs to determine the ultimate curse word.

Audio-based AI unreliable for predicting Covid-19 infection

Research undertaken by King's statisticians found that technology using Machine Learning performed no better than simply asking people to report their symptoms. 

The team collected and analysed a dataset of audio recordings from more than 67,000 individuals with Covid-19 symptoms who recorded themselves coughing, breathing an talking.
