Modules

Take a look at some of the modules you will be studying during your English BA degree. 

• Writing London is one of the required modules in your first year. Find out more about it with course lead Dr Daniel Smith.
• Classical and biblical contexts is one of the compulsory first year modules on the English degree, taught in the first semester. In this talk Dr Hannah Crawforth gives an overview of the module, outlining the kinds of texts you will read and the questions it raises.
• American literature is a first year module on the English BA at King's.
• Medieval literature: Professor Lawrence Warner gives us an overview of the 1st year compulsory medieval module. 
• Take a look at this Reading poetry module introduction by Dr Luke Roberts.
• This Writing poetry module video is an introduction to one of our Creative Writing paths through your English degree, from Professor of Poetry Ruth Padel.

How to join our offer holder community

1. If you’ve received an offer to study with us for September 2025 entry, you will also receive an email from King’s, inviting you to join our Community. Select ‘Join now’ to get started.
2. Once you’ve logged in, click on the ‘Explore’ tab, scroll down to ‘Groups’ and join our ‘Welcome’ group to start chatting with other offer holders. Join our 'Languages and Literature - Undergraduate' group to meet other students in your area, and ask questions to our student ambassadors. You can join as many groups as you’d like, or even start your own
3. If you’re having trouble accessing Unibuddy Community or if you haven’t yet received an email inviting you to join (this will typically be sent 10 days after you receive confirmation of your offer) then please get in touch with us at ambassador@kcl.ac.uk and we’ll be happy to help.

Understanding your offer

I've received an offer - what next?

You might have received one of two types of offer.

• Unconditional Offer: An offer made without any prerequisites or requirements that must be fulfilled.
• Conditional Offer: An offer granted on the condition that specific criteria or requirements are met before you can secure your place on the selected course.

Step 1

Read your offer letter carefully. If there is anything you don't understand or want to question, please contact the Admissions Office through your King's Apply account.

You then need to decide whether or not you wish to accept the offer from King's. The UCAS system allows you to respond to an offer in three ways:

• Firm acceptance

• Insurance acceptance

• Decline

In your UCAS Hub account you will be able to see the deadline for responding to your offer.

Step 2

If you decide to accept an offer from King's, in the spring and summer you will receive details of offer-holder webpages and events to help you make your decisions and prepare for your start at King’s.

You can continue to contact the Admissions Office with any queries though King's Apply.
