This BA Film Studies course combines film theory, history, criticism and filmmaking to offer a well-rounded foundation for careers within the film industry, media, and the creative arts. You’ll learn from academics whose expertise crosses genres and spans the globe. And since you’ll be joining one of the largest film studies departments in Europe, you’ll get to choose from a broad range of modules and shape your curriculum around your specific interests. You’ll have the chance to learn about everything from the birth of silent cinema to the impact of AI and other new technologies on film and explore world cinema from across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and beyond. This film studies degree will give you a detailed knowledge and understanding of film and moving image media of all kinds, the societies that produce them, the technologies and techniques used to make them, and the responses and debates they give rise to. Thanks to our location in central London, you’ll benefit from a range of extracurricular opportunities on your doorstep. This includes delving into the library at the British Film Institute (BFI), where you’ll get to attend screenings and other events, as well as networking with the film industry that’s based in the capital.
“The part I enjoy most about studying the BA Film Studies at King’s are the film screenings that usually take place after our lectures. I love the communal experience that this brings with it, especially the moments of shared laughter or stunned silence.”
