King’s Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) is a leadership development programme for non-final-year undergraduate students who are committed to creating positive change in society. The programme offers a unique opportunity that will enable our students to develop the skills and experience that will support them in becoming highly employable, civically minded and engaged citizens.
The CLA offers two pathways for students to engage:
The programme also features a Leadership Development Curriculum, the learning component of the CLA, which is made up of mandatory workshops, seminars, masterclasses and e-learning courses. These contribute to our students’ understanding of leadership, civic engagement and equip them with essential employability skills.
King's Civic Scholars (students) will bring enthusiasm, a passion for social justice and a willingness to learn. They will gain an insight into the challenges vulnerable communities face as well as the skills, knowledge, and experience to tackle some of London’s most complex social issues.
If you are a student interested in joining the programme, find out more on the King’s Edge KEATS page or search ‘Civic Leadership Academy’ on King’s CareerConnect. Applications are live and will close on Sunday 5th January 2025.
The CLA welcomes new organisations every year. In 2025, there are three ways for Community Partners to get involved in the programme:

The Inclusive Education Student Partners programme is a leadership and professional development opportunity. It aims to engage, empower, and upskill 18 talented BME students across our nine faculties, who are paid to provide a student perspective on issues relating to race inequality at King's and collaborate with their faculty on the inclusive education agenda.
Students on the programme dedicate a maximum of 10 hours per month for this role, receive guidance and supervisory support from a member of the Student Outcomes team and tailored training to help them to complete designated tasks. The training programme is delivered in collaboration with our services across King's to complement student's professional development.
If you're a current King's student, you can find out further information on the King's Inclusive Education Student Partners intranet page.
