Congratulations on your offer to join the MSc Mental Health Studies! We are delighted to welcome you to our diverse and vibrant community of learners, scholars, and leaders shaping the future of mental health. We look forward to supporting you on this exciting journey!

As a postgraduate student, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in contemporary debates in the field of mental health; develop transferable skills of academic study, critical appraisal and research; and delve into a dynamic process of theoretical and empirical research, collaborating with our world-class faculty, accessing state-state-of-the-art facilities, and contributing dynamically to a rapidly evolving evidence base.

Whether you are looking to transition to clinical psychology training, pursue further research at PhD level, or develop professionally as a mental health practitioner, our programme is designed to help you achieve your goals.

The MSc Mental Health Studies is carefully structured to provide a balanced blend of core and specialist knowledge, but also, truly unparalleled choice, flexibility and study support:

• Through our core Basic Mental Health module, you will build foundational knowledge on the aetiology, classification, treatment and management of psychiatric disorders.
• You will select up to two 30-credit optional modules, choosing from: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; Psychological Therapies; Social and Community Mental Health; Women’s Mental Health; Disaster Response - Mental Health, Behaviour and Communication.
• You can replace a 30-credit optional module with two 15-credit modules, including Self-Identity and Intercultural/Intergenerational Learning, and a range of Distance Learning modules: Mindfulness: Neuroscience and Application; Psychology and Neuroscience of Addiction; Psychology and Neuroscience of Psychosis.
• You will receive tailored taught support for your dissertation through specialist Research Methods modules, including Statistics for Mental Health Research; Big Data; Qualitative Research; and Systematic Review.
• Let’s not forget - some of our most popular modules are non-credit bearing! They include Voluntary Clinical Placements; The Lived Experience Perspective; Decolonising Mental Health Research; and Small Group Tutorials.
