The Department of Global Health & Social Medicine is a unique interdisciplinary community delivering research-led teaching that explores the complex social determinants of health, illness and ageing. Founded over 10 year ago we are now ranked within the top 10 sociology departments in the UK and through our internationally-recognised expertise and consultancy work contribute to policy development across a myriad of organisations and networks. We link our master's students with world-leading organisations, enabling students to gain valuable practical experience in the field and our partners to work with our dynamic students.
We have a mission to address the changing landscape of health and medicine from a social science perspective. We support our students to take their next academic professional steps and engage with non-governmental organisations and charities, think tanks, government, the private sector and academia.
