How to apply to postgraduate taught courses
How to apply for a taught postgraduate course at King's.
We know waiting for a decision on your application can be an anxious time. We hope some of the guidance here will help answer some of the questions you may have while waiting to hear back from King's.
When your application reaches King's, you will receive an email confirming receipt, and giving you log in details for King's Apply, our admissions portal.
King’s aims to make decisions on applications within 10 weeks (for applications received after 29th August 2024), though some of our very competitive postgraduate taught courses operate a ‘gathered field’ process for applicants who meet the advertised entry requirements and may therefore take longer. The selection procedure will be indicated on the relevant course page of the Online Prospectus.
Depending on the time of year, it may also take longer to process applications, particularly around deadline periods. Please ensure that your online application form is as complete as possible at the time of submission to avoid unnecessary delays and ask your referee(s) to be ready to submit a reference promptly.
Please also be aware there can be other factors that result in it taking longer for you to receive a final decision, for example, if you apply to a course where an interview is required, or your application is sent to the department for review.
When a decision has been made, you will be emailed to log in to your King’s Apply account. The decision will be in the “Application Status” box on the Application Overview screen.
You can view the average turn around time in weeks for each Faculty below:
You will receive a notification through King's Apply with full details. You will also be able to put any questions about the interview to the team through this platform.

King's Apply is King's online admissions system, which helps support you through the application process. It will also be the main method by which you will communicate with your admissions team once you have applied.
All applicants to King's can use King's Apply, but how you start using the system depends on which course you are applying to and how you submit your application.
If you applied for teacher training via Department for Education (DfE) apply then you will be given access to a portal which will allow you to check for official decisions from all of the institutions you have applied to, and respond to any offers. King's Apply does not replace DfE Apply, but provides lots of useful features for King's applicants to use, and will be your main method of communication with the Admissions team.
Usually our systems will email you with your login details for King's Apply within a few days of receiving your PGCE application from DfE Apply. If you haven't received this, check your junk or spam folders as a first step.
To submit a Pre-sessional application, you will need to log in to your King’s Apply account and select the “New Application” option. Your Pre-sessional application will then sit alongside your Undergraduate application on your King’s Apply homepage.
To retrieve your password, please go to King's Apply and underneath the ‘Login’ button you will see ‘Forgotten password?.’ Following this link will take you through to a password retrieval process. You a password reset link will be sent to you by email and will be active for 48 hours.
If you’re having other difficulties with the password retrieval function, please follow the instructions in the password reset link. Please make sure to include your full name, your date of birth and your SITS number (if applicable) in your email.
Please also ensure that you contact us from the same email address that you used when applying (this would be your King's Apply username), as we won’t be able to send any login details to a third party.

If you have an image file that is over 3MB, you may want to try either reducing the resolution of your scan (as long as any writing is still legible) or splitting the file into multiple pages (Page 1, Page 2 etc.)
Uploading your documents this way is the most efficient way of getting these documents considered in your application as it will be received directly by the admissions team that has responsibility for processing your application.
Please contact our King's Advisors for help.
If you have submitted the application form, please send a message through the King's Apply portal. The message should clearly detail where the mistake is. For example, if the referee contact details are incorrect, the message should make clear that the mistake concerns the 'References' section. You should then bring attention to the incorrect information and provide the correct information in the same message. The admissions team will endeavour to assess your application based on this corrected information.
If your contact details change after you have submitted your application then please send a message through the King's Apply portal.
If your application has been submitted and is under consideration, you should not send any additional documentation. The Admissions Office will contact you through King’s Apply if they need further documents to assess your application.
All information relating to your application should be sent to Admissions. Please do not send documents to academic departments as applications are processed centrally.
Documents can be submitted online via King’s Apply. This is the quickest and easiest way to contact the team.
