Students apply to the dual degree programme via the Bocconi website. They will be evaluated for admission first by Bocconi. Following an initial shortlisting of applicants by Bocconi, King’s will review the applications. The two admissions offices of Bocconi and King’s will make final admissions decisions on all shortlisted candidates.
Upon being admitted to the programme, students will be required to submit an application form to King’s in order for their details to be fully registered at that institution.
Personal statement and supporting information
The selection process is based on the evaluation of a dossier submitted to the Bocconi application portal including:
Students will spend their first semester at Bocconi and their second semester at King’s taking taught modules, and then complete with an internship, placement or thesis with Bocconi and a dissertation with King’s.
This course is primarily taught at Bocconi University, Milan in semester 1 and at the King’s College London Strand and Waterloo campuses in semester 2.
At Bocconi, various teaching methods are used to facilitate effective learning and knowledge acquisition. Lectures are complemented with seminars to encourage active participation and in-depth exploration of topics.
In some modules, students will engage in group projects to foster the ability to work in teams, and use case study analysis to apply their knowledge, develop analytical skills, and make decisions.
Teaching on the King’s award LLM course is delivered through a combination of lectures and seminars. Some modules may be delivered as two hours of seminar-style teaching a week, whilst others may be lecture-based or a combination of lecture and seminars. Overall, students will usually have 6 to 10 contact hours a week.
Typically at King's, one credit equates to 10 hours of work.
Assessment
At Bocconi the assessment is mainly conducted via written exams that include answering open questions or writing an essay. Some modules’ assessments might also be based on presentations and quizzes.
At King’s your performance will be assessed through a combination of coursework and examination. Forms of assessment may typically include essays, examinations, presentations, reaction papers or other assignments.
The study time and assessment methods detailed above are typical and give you a good indication of what to expect. However, they are subject to change.
King's College London is regulated by the Office for Students.
Structure
Courses are divided into required and optional modules.
Required modules
For both awards, all students are required to take the following five modules at Bocconi University in semester 1:
For the King’s LLM Award: You will normally take modules to the equivalent total of 180 credits for the King’s award of this programme. Students are required to complete a 60 credit dissertation, and in addition to the 60 credits of optional modules taken at King’s in semester 2, the marks for all the semester 1 Bocconi modules (except for Legal Tech) will be translated and recorded as a 60 credit King’s module and used in the final calculation of the King’s LLM award.
For the Bocconi LLM Award: In addition to the required modules taken at Bocconi in Semester 1, marks for the 60 credits of optional modules taken at King’s in Semester 2 will be used for the calculation of the final Bocconi Award. Students will also complete either: a curricular internship consistent with the educational objectives of the LLM; or ‘clinical work’ - a short-term assignment by an external partner focussing on specific subjects; or an individual research paper (final thesis) on a subject different to their King’s dissertation.
Optional modules
For both awards: in addition you are required to take 60 credits of King’s LLM optional modules in semester 2:
