The programmes offering a study abroad period are Anatomy, Developmental and Human Biology (BSc), Biochemistry (BSc), Biomedical Science (BSc), Medical Physiology (BSc), Molecular Genetics (BSc), Pharmacology (BSc) and Bioscience Education (MSci).
Students on the Biochemistry BSc, Medical Physiology BSc or Molecular Genetics BSc programmes can study abroad for the first semester of their second year, remaining on a 3-year degree OR study abroad for an additional full year in their third, converting their degree into a 4-year version of the programme. Students on the Biomedical Science BSc, Biochemistry BSc, Neuroscience BSc, Pharmacology BSc, Anatomy, Developmental and Human Biology BSc, and Molecular Genetics BSc can only study abroad for an additional full year in their third year, converting their degree into a 4-year version of the programme. Those students cannot study abroad for a single semester in their second year.
Students have the option study abroad for the first semester of their second year at either the University of California or the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

All Bioscience Education students currently studying in their first year and applying for the Semester 1, Year 2 only option are required to achieve at a least a 60% average across their mid-sessionals and a 60% average in their first year, to be approved to study abroad. Students currently studying in their second year and applying for the whole year abroad as part of a 4-year programme are required to achieve at least a 60% average in their second year.
Finally, students can also consider the extra mural year as an alternative way to add value to their King's Bioscience Education degree.
