The group will travel via Eurostar. On average, travelling on the Eurostar emits 10 times less carbon per passenger compared to a short-haul flight to the same destination.
Reflecting the programme’s core ethos of low-carbon living, the group will stay in high-quality hostels. This supports and demonstrates sustainable and environmental practices. The hostel will be situated in, or close to, the city centre with excellent public transport links.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) offers 20 grants of up to £2,000 each for undergraduate students from ACU member universities in the UK to attend summer schools during summer 2020, with up to two King’s students being nominated for this award, with a final decision resting with the ACU.
The maximum grant amount in 2020 was £2,000. The grant will not be awarded for 2023 and is still to be confirmed for summer 2024. This is intended to contribute to registration fees, travel to and from the summer school, and visa and vaccination costs. Successful applicants are responsible for arranging their own flights, registering for the summer school in question, and making their own visa and vaccination arrangements.
The total cost of flights plus registration fees will exceed £2,000 for some of the summer schools, so applicants should carefully check the costs for each school using a currency converter, such as xe.com.
Successful applicants will be required to submit a short written report about their experience to the ACU within a month of their return.
Grants are available to students who meet both of these criteria:
In addition, students must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
* If you are unsure if you are eligible to apply, please email studyabroad@kcl.ac.uk.
In the application form, you will be asked to pick a first choice and an optional second choice of summer school. Please note that the dates, content, and costs of the summer schools vary, and all details can be found on the ACU Host Universities webpage.
The available options are as follows:
If the award is offered for summer 2024, details will appear here.
Two King's students attended Stellenbosch University in 2018 through the ACU Summer School Grants. One of these students said:
'My summer school at Stellenbosch was an amazing opportunity! I left having learned a whole lot about South Africa as a nation and place, with a group of new international friends and a desire to see more of the world.'
