Temporary closure of the Maughan Library in August

The outside arch view of the Maughan Library.

Due to a planned fire detection upgrade and redecoration of the Round Reading Room, the Maughan Library is closed from 01.00 on Saturday 3 August, until 09.00 on Monday 19 August 2024.

What are the alternative arrangements?

  • Extra study rooms are open daily from 8.00 to 22.00 on the Strand campus.
  • Click and collect services are available outside the Maughan Library to borrow.
  • On weekdays, you can borrow items from 9.30 to 18.30, and on weekends, from 10.30 to 17.30.
  • Special collections can be accessed by appointment during the closure, and the online resources will remain unaffected.

Can I access other libraries?

All other libraries, including the Franklin-Wilkins Library at Waterloo (open 24/7 and only a 10-minute walk from the Strand campus), will remain open.
