Exploring London on foot

View of Big Ben from South Bank.

One of the best things about London is how walkable the city is and King’s location makes it an ideal starting point to explore the capital. Exploring on foot is a great way to get to know your area but walking can also be good for your mental and physical health. If you register for the King’s Move app, you can even earn points by being active which you can use to claim rewards like a free hot drink or gym pass.

Here are some recommendations for walks to try this autumn:

Along the South Bank

Passing some of London’s most iconic buildings this scenic route is one for all seasons. Start at Waterloo and pass the London Eye and food market outside the South Bank Centre, along to the Tate Modern, taking in views of St Pauls and the historic Shakespear’s Globe theatre. There’s always something going on – from street performances to book markets.

Inner Temple Garden

This hidden gem is right on the doorstep of the Strand campus. Open 12.30 – 15.00 on weekdays, the garden is the perfect place to take a break and relax.

Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill

Regent’s Park is one of the top London spots for an autumn walk. To get the classic Instagram shot, head to the tree-lined Broad Walk at the centre of the park. You can continue your walk on to Primrose Hill for panoramic views across London, or along Regent’s Canal as far as King’s Cross, passing through busy Camden market on the way.

Covent Garden

The winding streets of Covent Garden are full of unique shops and historic buildings. Check out the Apple Market, which is usually decorated for the season, head to Neal’s Yard and continue on to Seven Dials Market or Chinatown for some delicious food.

Ruskin Park

Close to Denmark Hill, Ruskin Park is a great spot to unwind and enjoy nature. There’s a café, tennis courts and football pitches as well as an outdoor gym.
