Things to do in London this spring

Cherry blossom trees in bloom in a London park.

Spring is doing its thing in London. You might have deadlines to meet and revision around the corner but it’s important to find a balance and take breaks. Why not spend your study breaks exploring the city?

See spring colours

With the weather turning warmer and days getting longer, it’s time to get out and explore London’s green spaces. Student Life Content Creator Michelle has rounded up her favourite spots to take a nature break but you can also enjoy the best of spring at:

  • Battersea Park and Regent’s Park, which are both home to beautiful blossom trees.
  • Hampton Court Palace’s Tulip Festival – Tickets to see the colour tulip displays are included with entry, starting at £22.50 for students.

Don’t forget to download the King’s Move app so you can collect points for your steps.

Have a laugh

Visit the Top Secret Comedy Club for a fun and unique night out. The Top Secret Comedy Club hosts both some of the best comedians on the UK circuit and up-and-coming talent, with new shows every night of the week.

Tickets start at £1.

Live at Lunch from the Royal Ballet and Opera

See a free performance at lunchtime throughout the spring and summer, featuring Royal Ballet and Opera artists. Check out the schedule on the Royal Ballet and Opera website.

New Cross and Deptford Free Film Festival

Catch a film for free at the New Cross and Deptford Free Film Festival. Running between 25 April until 3 May 2025, there’s a huge variety of screenings from box-office smash Wicked (2024) to cult-classic Dune (1984).

Food markets

Enjoy the sunshine and try some delicious food at one of London’s many food markets.

  • Spitalfields Market – Open every day, check the website for times.
  • Victoria Park Market – Enjoy street food and views at east London’s favourite park, every Sunday from 10.00-16.00.
  • Borough Market – London’s most famous food market is open every day, check the website for times.
  • Maltby Street Market – This hidden gem in Bermondsey is open every Saturday 10.00-17.00 & Sunday 11.00-16.00.

Take the Thames Clipper

If you fancy seeing London’s famous landmarks, the Thames Clipper boats are a low-cost way to tick them off.

Some popular routes are:

  • Tate to Tate. Travel from Bankside Pier to Millbank Pier, to visit both the Tate Modern and Tate Britain. The journey takes 22 minutes.
  • Embankment to Battersea Power Station for views of Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye. The journey takes ten minutes, but you could extend it by starting at Tower Pier instead and take in views of Tower Bridge, Shakespear’s Globe, Somerset House too.
