What happens to my tuition fees if I interrupt or withdraw from my programme?

If you interrupt or withdraw from your studies, your fees will be revised based on the number of weeks you have attended. Undergraduate fees are based on 30 weeks' worth of attendance.

Please read carefully under the relevant heading below:

• If you interrupt or withdraw with a last date of attendance during the first 2 weeks from the start date of your programme, no fees will be due.
• If you interrupt or withdraw after week 2, fees will be re-calculated according to the number of weeks you attended, using your last date of attendance, as confirmed to us by your department.
• This calculation is based on dates of the 30 week undergraduate year September to June.
• Calculation: programme fee divided by year length (30 weeks) multiplied by number of weeks attended.
• Please note that, due to the rules about how student loan fee payments are made, there are maximum amounts King’s is allowed to charge for each term: 25% for Term 1, 25% for Term 2 and 50% for Term 3.

• If you interrupt or withdraw with a last date of attendance during the first 2 weeks of the year, no fees will be due.
• If you interrupt or withdraw after week 2, fees will be re-calculated according to your last date of attendance prior to interruption or withdrawal date.
• This calculation is based on dates of the 30 week undergraduate year September to June.

• Any pro-rata calculated fees will be due in full within 14 days from the date of the invoice. If you are experiencing financial difficulties and would like to speak to someone about any outstanding fee payments, please contact Money Housing and Advice Services (MHAS) for help and support.

• If you interrupt with a confirmed last date of attendance of within the first 2 weeks of term, no fees are due but remember that the fee deposit is non-refundable. However, if your revised tuition fee is less than your paid deposit when you interrupt your studies, this excess amount will be put towards your fees on your return.
• If you interrupt after week 2, fees will be re-calculated according to your last date of attendance prior to interruption.
• The calculation is based on attendance dates of 30 weeks, September to June.
• Calculation: programme fee divided by year length (30 weeks) multiplied by number of weeks attended.

• Your withdrawal date is calculated as the date that you submit your withdrawal application.
• If you withdraw within the first 2 weeks of term, no fees are due but remember that the fee deposit is non-refundable.
• If you withdraw after week 2, fees will be re-calculated according to your withdrawal date.
• The calculation is based on attendance dates of 30 weeks, September to June.
• Calculation: programme fee divided by year length (30 weeks) multiplied by number of weeks attended.

Home student with SLC Student Loan

• If you are re-joining your course part-way through the year, your fees will be capped to the full time fee that you would have been charged for full attendance before you interrupted.
• Any Undergraduate student returning in Sep will be expected to pay full fee

Home student that is Self-Funded

• If you are re-joining your course part-way through the year, your fees will be calculated according to the number of weeks of attendance remaining for the year.
• Any Undergraduate student returning in Sep will be expected to pay full fee

Overseas student

• If you are re-joining your course part-way through the year, your fees will be calculated according to the number of weeks of attendance remaining for the academic year.
• Any Undergraduate student returning in Sep will be expected to pay full fee

If you are unable to progress into the next year of study, and have been granted further attempts at re-assessment, then you will have to repeat the year.

You can either be 'in college' or 'out of college' to resubmit failed or deferred assessment. Your mode of attendance will be 'out of college' as a default.

Out of College

This means you will not be in attendance for any lectures or tutorials, and you will not have access to laboratories or specialist facilities, although you will still have access to libraries and to KEATS to revise for your exams.

• There is no fee to resit ALL your modules out of college.
• You will not be eligible for funding by Student Finance England.
• Tier 4 visa students will not be sponsored for this period and will have to return home.

In College

This means you will be attending lectures and tutorials. You will be charged tuition on a pro rata basis based on the number of credits (see the fee examples below for details). The fee is calculated per credit. This will be an invoice sent during semester 1 (as with full tuition fees).

• You need to resit a minimum of 15 credits to be eligible for funding by the Student Loans Company. Please contact the KCL Student Funding Office for more information on this.
• Tier 4/Student Visa students must take a minimum of 15 credits per semester to be sponsored by the College whilst resitting.
• Please contact your department to clarify which modules you need to resit and whether you are able to resit them in college. This must be done as soon as possible.
• Once your department confirms with Student Lifecycle Systems which modules you are resitting in college, you will be sent an email inviting you to re-enrol for the academic year. You will also be registered for the modules again on KEATS. We will confirm the fee liability once your request has been approved.
• Please note that the pro rata fees for all reassessment will be based on the current academic year tuition fee structure.

Please note:

• Your pro-rata fee will be based on your fee status (Home/EU or Overseas), how many credits you are resitting in attendance and the fee for your programme of study in that current academic year. The pro-rata in college resit fee is agreed between you and Student Lifecycle Systems, and this will be the fee that you are charged.
• Calculation: programme fee divided by total number of credits for the year of the programme multiplied by number of credits being resat.
