Graduate Teaching Assistants

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) are valued members of the School of Security Studies community. The GTA scheme was designed to enable research students to contribute to teaching and assessment activities, gaining essential experience while undertaking their doctoral studies.

How to Apply

 

If you are a New or Returning GTA to War Studies

The online application will open on 8 Apr and will close on 29 April 2022. The interviews will be held on w/c 16 May.

Application Form

A reference from your supervisor is required prior to interview (including if you have taught as a GTA previously). Maximum 200 Words. Please ask your PhD supervisor to send this directly to TeachingAssistants-SecurityStudies@kcl.ac.uk

The online application will open on 8 Apr and will close on 29 April 2022. The interviews will be held on w/c 16 May.

Department facilities

War Studies Department

  • The photocopier on the 4th floor corridor (King’s Building) of the department. The room is accessed with your swipe card.
  • If you need to use an office to meet with students outside of class please liaise with your course convenor for a mutually convenient time when you might use their office for an hour or so. Keys can be borrowed from the departmental office (K6.06).
  • The photocopier on the 6th floor corridor (King's Building). You need to scan your student card to access the photocopier. 
  • KEATS - You will be signed up with access to the KEATS e-learning facility. You will be given Editing Teacher access so you can mark and return essays and comments online.

Defence Studies Department

  • All those working at the Defence Academy will be required to complete a security clearance prior to teaching
  • You will have access to the Hobson Library, the single largest defence library in the UK
  • On site accommodation is available, subject to availability

Module Outlines 

War Studies Department

Visit the Module Selection Hub and self-enrol by clicking ‘Continue’ under External student self enrolment.

Access the module outlines pages, Year 1 and Year 2 modules, both compulsory and optional, will be available for GTAs

Defence Studies Department

GTA's within the Defence Studies Department are given the opportunity to teach on our Intermediate Officer Development short courses in the Royal Air Force Division
