The Shaw Lab’s research interests revolve around our aim to understand the cell and molecular mechanisms underlying scarring. We have recently discovered a unique extracellular matrix (ECM) composition in pathological keloid scars and are now questioning how these specific matrix proteins can affect the organisation and stability of the scar ECM. We are also working to understand how pathological ECM influences the phenotype of the cells within the tissue, including the impressively plastic dermal fibroblasts, as well as immune cells and their response to tissue damage.
